What the public thinks of Franklin Boulevard today

As primarily a driver, I find it frustrating that most of Franklin Blvd does not accommodate left turns. Looking forward to roundabouts and the ability to access businesses on the other side of the corridor from the side I’m driving on.
The intersection at Villard is a challenge esp. when Matt Knight has events.
We consistently dislike the merging from I-5 coming westbound onto Franklin, with low visibility merging & then getting over for the left turn at MoC to go south toward our house. And the Franklin – Agate intersection timing is great for pedestrians, not so great for cars, etc.
Some of the turning lanes on Franklin are confusing, even as someone who is familiar with the area. I accidentally turned into the wrong lane from Franklin onto Villard the other day (luckily other drivers saw me error and gave me room to correct it!) I don’t love having to turn left/make U turns to access business on either side. I appreciate that the EMX runs along Franklin, when I have taken it before (I did moreso in the past when I lived near a place that was on the route) I found it convenient for accessing the UO and Downtown. As a pedestrian, Franklin just feels exhausting to me–loud and full of traffic and I feel like I have to be extra vigilant at crosswalks because of all the different turn lanes/vehicles/etc.
Franklin Boulevard is very dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists. The sight lines from turning lanes, the speed of traffic, the number of lanes, the fact that people tend to drive well over the speed limit regularly, the confusing nature of the turning lanes onto side streets… I can’t even list all the ways is currently unsafe to those who are not inside a vehicle. Even though I have never been hit while walking, it has come very close a number of times and that is also traumatizing. I would never consider riding a bike or or other mobility device on Franklin because that is a death wish. I think the city’s plans are good, and that roundabouts are not as scary as people think they are!
The merge from I5 must be fixed. Other things not so much.
Pavement is poor, merge onto Franklin blvd from Springfield is very dangerous
Safety needs to be addressed. The merging issues at the beginning of Franklin to the east are an issue. More roundabouts or other solutions that lead to smoother traffic flow, but still allow access to ALL businesses and driveways while ensuring safety for walking and biking should be the priority.
Eliminating the the Orchard left turn is foolish and harmful to Laurel Hill Valley neighborhood.
I think it needs to be more bike/walk friendly. The quality of road way need improvement.
Difficult traffic and confusing for people unfamiliar at the West end toward downtown.
We need more lanes for cars. The car traffic can get congested and it moves people best through automobiles. Also, it is not an area with good biking or walking proximity, so this should not be the primary priority. Thirdly, the few students who walk and bike in the area to get to school have good sidewalks and crosswalks to get there, which I have used for walking and enjoyed. Please put up signs asking pedestrians to look up from phones when walking on the sidewalks or crossing streets. All accidents I have seen there were pedestrians on phones and walking into each-other.
This is just a needlessly confusing section of road with the multiple curves and lanes leading into E Broadway, particularly when trying to plan a route to a new destination.
congestion
(1)Greatest need is one the plan does not address: need for left-turn lane from westbound Franklin onto Agate St, to access east side of campus. (2) Generally, I like roundabouts and think they’re great — but that does not mean that “more is always better.” Current plan omits a roundabout in the one place it’s most needed (Agate), and includes at least one more toward the east than will be useful.
It is not a comfortable street to walk down or drive down. It appears to be unsafe.
It’s an ugly welcome to the city/university district. vehicles drive way too fast despite there being pedestrians nearby/crossing it all the time. drivers treat it is an extension of the freeway and/or simply as a thoroughfare to get past as quickly as possible. it’s not a pleasant experience for those who are not in a vehicle…. and even when driving, it’s hard because of the confusing signage, awkward intersections and chaos of UO campus being on both sides of the roadway.
It would be wonderful to feel safe crossing such a busy and wide road on foot. It would also be nice when driving if the roadway was simpler (less merging) .
Due to the sidewalks being immediately next to drivers, especially eastbound, it regularly feels unsafe to walk there. Pedestrians need a safety bumper so that bad drivers won’t hurt them. Also, The agate/franklin intersection is just awful for everyone involved. It is long, regardless if you’re a pedestrian, biker, driver, or on a bus, With the 2 turn left lanes going west from agate, I can tell you that due to unclear lines on the pavement that there have been minor car accidents due to someone either cutting the turn or going wide. Same thing goes for Villard/Franklin. cars regularly improperly yield, in part due to there not being enough clarity between who is proceeding to the other side of villard vs turning. As someone who has utilized pretty much all modes of transportation, and being a previous resident, I can tell you that I absolutely hated walking down Franklin–from 13th to walnut, down either side of the road. make it safer for pedestrians, please.
I’m all for making Franklin Boulevard safer for pedestrians and better for drivers/traffic
It is so frustrating to not be able to turn south onto Agate when you are in the westbound lane!
Need more accessible roads for folks
The paving is terrible and there are so many bumps
Pave the roads!
They should add more crosswalks and also add an off ramp from I-5 north bound to save time.
