BEST joins people across the country in honoring Rosa Parks and recognizing Transit Equity Day on her birthday. Everyone has a right to safe, reliable, environmentally-sustainable, and affordable transit that is accessible to all, regardless of income, national origin, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or ability.

Because state transportation funding and policies have a significant effect on what can or can’t be accomplished locally, during the Oregon Legislature’s 2024 short session BEST is watching a few bills related to highways, bridges, commuter rail, transit, electric bicycles and micromobility, trails, aviation, weight-mile taxes, affordable housing, and climate change.

During the 2024 short session, the Oregon Legislature will focus on adjusting the state budget and addressing issues around housing, homelessness, and behavioral issues. They will also address a legal issue around public trail access. But they will wait until 2025 to take up a major transportation funding package.

BEST joins other Oregon Climate Advocates in calling on the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to expand the transportation element of the draft Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) beyond support for electric vehicles (EVs).

BEST joins 195 organizations across the nation in calling on President Biden and Congress to prioritize transportation investments that put communities and people first.

BEST supports a RAISE grant to implement Lane County’s East 30th Avenue Active Transportation Plan.

BEST supports a CFEC Implementation Grant for the City of Eugene’s Urban Growth Strategies.

BEST joins organizations across the nation in supporting Senator Ed Markey’s (D-MA) transformative bill to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle miles traveled (VMT).

BEST will be at the table representing taxpayers in Lane County.
