BEST joins The Street Trust and others in supporting House Bill 4067 to create the Task Force on Electric Micromobility and opposing House Bill 4103 to modify the definition of an electric assisted bicycle.

BEST joins Protect Oregon Recreation, Oregon Trails Coalition, and others in calling on state lawmakers to restore recreational immunity for land managers that open their lands to the public, in particular, with the -3 amendments to Senate Bill 1576.

BEST supports Senate Bill 1537 to provide affordable housing for Oregonians—if amended to remove UGB expansion loopholes.

Because state transportation funding and policies have a significant effect on what can or can’t be accomplished locally, during the Oregon Legislature’s 2024 short session BEST is watching a few bills related to highways, bridges, commuter rail, transit, electric bicycles and micromobility, trails, aviation, weight-mile taxes, affordable housing, and climate change.

During the 2024 short session, the Oregon Legislature will focus on adjusting the state budget and addressing issues around housing, homelessness, and behavioral issues. They will also address a legal issue around public trail access. But they will wait until 2025 to take up a major transportation funding package.

Because state transportation policies and funding have a significant effect on what can or can’t be accomplished locally, BEST is supporting, opposing, or watching a few dozen bills during the 2023 Oregon Legislative Session.
