Why Now?
Despite good efforts by the City of Eugene (Vision Zero) and Lane County (Toward Zero Deaths), too many tragedies continue to occur. Since last August, four people bicycling in Eugene have died in traffic crashes. Over just four days in early May, a person bicycling along River Road, a person riding a motorcycle east of Florence, and a person walking in Junction City died in separate crashes. People from all walks of life are affected.
May 20 is the day of the Ride of Silence, an annual multi-location, international bicycle ride to commemorate people killed or injured while bicycling on public roads.
